ENERGY

The ARRA emphasizes energy efficiency, encouraging and/or requiring recipients to integrate energy efficiency or innovation into federally funded projects. The Act also concentrates a large portion of funds for block grants to states and communities for the specific purposes of home weatherization, conservation, and public awareness.

Weatherization Assistance Program

Federal funds provide a significant increase in outreach for existing state weatherization programs, the purpose of which is to improve the thermal efficiency in homes of low-income families.

State Energy Program

Additional grants are provided to states to increase public awareness, expand outreach activities , and offer incentive loans for capital investment that promotes energy efficiency.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants

A new program created and funded by the ARRA to reduce fossil fuel emissions and decrease total energy consumption by transportation, buildings, and other energy consuming sectors.

General Services Administration (GSA) - Federal Buildings Fund

The GSA will convert selected federal facilities to "High-Performance Green Buildings.” These funds do not pass through state government.

Energy Star Rebates

This is a new federal program which provides $300 million nationwide to establish consumer rebate programs for energy efficient appliance purchases.
